Dan O'Bannon drew on previous works of science fiction and horror and wrote the screenplay from a story he co-authored with Ronald Shusett. Alien stars Tom Skerritt, Sigourney Weaver, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm and Yaphet Kotto.
